“Placing Ourselves at the Full Disposal of God”

Romans 12:1c

holy and pleasing to God...

Thoughts for Today:

In our previous devotion we took a look at what it meant to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice Ð and the difficulty we have in doing so. Today we're going to examine this from another point of view: the offer to sacrifice is "to present" or yield our will to God's. It is the same term we discussed in Romans 6:13 (KJV): "Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." The concept here is that we express ourselves through our bodies, and yielding is the path we follow to Christian character and conduct. According to Scripture, here are some ways our bodies are to be used to bring glory to God:

1 Corinthians 6:19b-20: "You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
Philippians 1:20: "I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death."
2 Corinthians 4:10: "We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body."

When Paul says to yield our bodies he means our total identity Ð we are to take on the likeness of Jesus. Therefore, by an act of our own will, we "offer our bodies as living sacrifices--holy and pleasing to God." In other words, we are to place our full self at the disposal of God.

Questions to Ponder:

When was the last time you placed your self at the full disposal of God, completely and without reservation in His service? Have you yielded your will to His? If you truly want to please God then yield to Him. If you truly want to change, then sacrifice your body and yield it to Him. He is worthy!
