1 Corinthians 16:13b
...stand firm in the faith...
In John 17:4, Jesus said: "I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do." Finishing the work God gave Him to do was not just an idle thought. It wasn't an idea written in His journal or one of His "bucket list" dreams. It was something Jesus did.
People who are successful have one thing in common: They finish what they start. It doesn't matter whether it's related to career, children, education, or the Kingdom. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people might also have great intentions, and even start well, but they don't finish. They give up, make compromises, and fail to reach their potential.
In our passage today, Paul tells us to "stand firm in the faith." By God's grace we don't have to give in to the pressure of society, or make compromises related to our faith. We can be consistent in our time of study, worship, and praise. We can love one another; be committed to the work God has given us, and faithful in tithing, prayer and thanksgiving. We honor God and bring Him glory when we stand firm in these areas of faithfulness. Finishing well what we started -- to the end of our days on the earth.
God has called me to write daily devotions, so I will continue on with this work until He gives me another responsibility. What has God called you to do? Is it to teach Sunday school, or serve on the finance committee? How about a consistent time for your daily study? It doesn't matter what it is, or how insignificant it might appear. The point is: Are you doing it? If not, then get started today. If so, continue on bringing praise, honor and glory to our Lord. Will you finish what you started?
